Chris Barreto

Yogadventure Founder

Chris is a NYC based yoga instructor and founder of YOGADVENTURE. He currently lives in New York City´s East Village, where he teaches yoga and works as a sign painter and muralist. He recently opened his very own yoga studio in Murray Hill with fellow friend and teacher Monty Stilson.

Chris is known for his mindful and meditative classes. With a concentration on breath, mindfulness, and alignment, he will safely guide you through a powerful moving meditation, where you will learn to go within and explore the deeper levels of your practice and yourself.

An adventurer and nature lover, Chris was immediately attracted to the stunning beauty, extreme biodiversity, and gentle people he encountered on a vacation to Costa Rica back in 2003. He returned the following year and spent three months backpacking through the many quaint beach villages and lush mountain towns from the Caribbean to the Pacific coast.

Many reasons would bring him back year after year — He studied Spanish with host families in the jungles of Manuel Antonio; had several volunteer stays on sustainable farms; and eventually received his RYT 200 hr yoga teacher training at the Nosara Yoga Institute in 2011, under the training of Don and Amba Stapleton.

Costa Rica was the perfect place to help facilitate his connection to nature and his yoga practice. After completing his training he knew he wanted to share his yoga and the beauty and adventurous wonder of this amazing country with everyone.

Chris led his first YOGADVENTURE retreat in 2013 at a permaculture farm in the mountain town of La Fortuna, at the base of the Arenal Volcano. In 2016, he joined forces with fellow friend and yoga teacher Chris Miller, hosting several retreats in Dominical, Uvita, and Cabo Matapalo.

Join us November 3 - 9, along with fellow yoga teacher Rebecca Lowry for our next Yogadventure in Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica!

Rebecca Lowry

As both an avid yoga student and teacher, Rebecca´s yoga practice has evolved over the decades. Her classes combine elements from the many disciplines that she has studied: hatha, vinyasa, yin and restorative yoga, yoga for scoliosis, meditation, and pranayama. She is a former dancer and massage therapist.

Chris Miller

Yogadventure Co-founder

Chris is a London based yoga teacher and fitness coach with a background in Psychotherapy and Health Counselling. He uses yoga and meditation as a vehicle for developing physical and mental strength, stability and clarity as path to our inherent natural joy.

He teaches at Triyoga studios, the Houses of Parliament, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Soho House and is resident “Health Guru” for Ace Hotel London.

From an early age Chris was completely captivated by the natural world, avidly devouring all the books and TV (it was before the internet!) he could until graduating BSc. Zoology.

It was a dream come true to first visit Costa Rica in 2007, nowhere else has he encountered such natural richness. So when his friend Chris Barreto asked him to join forces in 2016, it made perfect sense to share their mutual passions of yoga, adventure and nature with their students coming together from around the world!

Chris is an ongoing student of Cyndi Lee, author and first female teacher to fully integrate yoga asana and Tibetan Buddhism in her practice and teaching. He completed teacher training with Cyndi in 2012 and has continued beyond RYT 500 hour studies with her since.

His classes combine a strong physical practice with inner concepts of mindfulness and compassion, Chris is known to teach a sweaty, engaging and good humoured yoga experience. Often exploring themes of resilience, impermanence, connection and non-dualism, his students expect to work hard, learn, reconnect with themselves (as a path for connecting to people and things beyond ourselves) and importantly have a little fun.

A note from YOGADVENTURE Co-Founders Chris Barreto & Chris Miller

Since ancient times the world of wild nature has been highly revered by sages, yogis, and poets as a place supporting radical self transformation. In more recent times, it has become apparent that connection with wild nature is an important aid to developing an ecological sensibility and sense of connection with the web of life. This can support action towards a sustainable future for all.

At one level the value of immersion and practice in nature is obvious. How many times have we been returned to a fuller sense of ourselves by taking a short walk in the woods? How often do we return replenished by new perspectives after a while gazing across the ocean? We know how land and sky can bring us to a deep sense of awe and wonder at the nature of things. Sometimes these experiences demand that we re-orientate our sense of who and what we are, where our priorities lie and offer an opportunity for pause, reflection and perhaps a new direction.

Many of us have felt strong benefits of both yoga practice and immersion in nature. We strive to support others to reconnect with these sources of nourishment, well-being, integration and inspiration.

We promise transformative yoga practices, endless adventure, healthy delicious food, wild deserted beaches, stunning waterfalls, spectacular sunrises, new friends, and memories to last a lifetime!
